There is wonderful regional content that needs, is crying, for an outlet.

I make no bones about it I think that the TED idea is the best thing I ever stumbled upon as an educator.

I use TED.com materials in all my classes, have collaborated on various sized TEDx events.

I have even settled on producing TEDx Salon events at my University.

And now there is a fantastic addition to the TEDTalk videos, 10 new themed TED podcasts.

TED introduces 10 new podcasts on iTunes

If we could recommend one superb TEDTalk about music a week, what would it be? What about business? Technology?

Here at TED.com we are always looking for new and better ways to bring together the voices of TED speakers and TED viewers. This week we are launching themed iTunes podcasts, to bring more topics of interest directly to you. Along with receiving your daily TEDTalk, subscribing to one of our specially curated podcast channels means you will receive a weekly talk recommended by the TED team in the category (or categories!) of your choice: Art, Business, Education, Health, Kids + Family, Music, News + Politics, Science + Medicine, Society + Culture and Technology. When you subscribe this week, you’ll start with 10 TEDTalks we think you’ll like.

Any other themes you’d like to see? Want more than one talk a week? Feeling love in our general direction? Leave us a comment below or write to contact@ted.com.

To start receiving talks from your favorite TED topics, subscribe now >>

I am constantly amazed by the value I get from TEDTalks.

I am even more amazed at how infectious they are as we are seeing at our TEDxZU Salon.

TEDx events are a curious thing.

What I have come to learn, and love, is that once you start a TEDx event rolling it is very difficult to get out of the way and jump free of the momentum.

TEDxAbuDhabiU happened April 23, 2011 but it is far from over.

Sure the speakers, organizers and help have all moved on but the influence of the event lingers.

The challenge of a TEDx is how to keep the event centered around the community and at the same time have a global impact.

Part of the impact challenge is the social media side of things and the traditional media side of things.

Almost every TEDx event tries to record the event on video and get it up on YouTube for the TED community to poke at.

TEDxAbuDhabiU was no exception we had a great group of student videographers from TwoFour54 in Abu Dhabi join us and capture the event on film.

Of course with all technological enterprises there have been some hick-ups and we are still waiting on the video.

It was great that Magnus Nystedt ran a set of bootleg recordings and those have been circulating on the internet as a way of getting the word out there.

No these recordings off a flip camera are not the best but they are a record.

It was watching these recordings that got me thinking about a podcast version of TEDxAbuDhabiU.

While the official video is still in process there was and is nothing but time stopping me from getting the official audio of TEDxAbuDhabiU out.

What I am always surprised about is how neglected audio is these days.

We all still listen to Mp3 recordings, radio and podcasts.

You may get in the car and watch a dvd, but more likely you turn on the radio.

So why are there not more TEDx events promoting their content via easy to download mp3 files?

In my case I use audacity to edit the audio and podomatic to serve it up.

The end result is TEDxAbudhabiu the podcast edition.

The question I get from people all the time is why TED?

You can go online and watch TED Talks for free so why spend your time and money to go to a TED event?

Well, TED is a full experience and from my vantage point the talks are just secondary to that experience.

What makes the TED experience, unlike so many others, is that the audience is curated with as much thought as the stage show and that is what draws me to TED.

At TED you meet real people doing really cool inspirational things that could easily be on stage and they are sitting beside you or just hanging.

And the best thing about a TED audience is they want to share and the fact that everyone has been curated into the program means the introduction has already taken place and the ego is checked at the door.

A TED conference is action 2.0. you listen, watch and then get down to actually taking the ideas to action all at the event!

Here is my observations from the 1st 2 days.

My question is why aren’t more conferences organized like TED?

The greatest problem confronting the world today is a corporate leadership that is not prepared to think on a global scale!

Really!

The average MBA, Ph.D, MFA, MA has had what training in the art of dealing with the global picture when it comes to micro problem solving at the organizational level?

None!

I had the opportunity to speak to 2 of the co-founders of Source Integral and they were very passionate about the need to recast the thought process of our global leaders.

The idea of PlanetInc was born out of the work of Source Integral‘s management training.

Erica Ilves and Annie McQuade talk about the idea of a more inclusive education that actually brings different ideas to a table allowing different perspectives on a problem to be incorporated into a solution.

While this training happens now for managers and leaders in government, business I wonder why the training is not happening at the high school level or earlier? Why retrofit our leaders when we can prefit them before they get into their leadership positions?

Here is the conversation! Imagine how this idea could make a difference in any corporate decision making structure.

5. thank you and a smile goes a long way

We all find ourselves around children, youth, students, young adults BUT how often do you listen to them? How often do you have that conversation that needs to be had with the people who will have to deal with the mess we are making of things?

Last night I had a very interesting conversation with Razan Masri, she is behind the shirt sensation Camiceria Design in Dubai!

The idea is to give men a shirt with personality beyond a piece of driftwood.

But do men really want to dress with personality?

And does dressing in shirts that accent a man’s personality send the right message to the business community?

Razan thinks so!

A conversation about a man and his shirt.

But here is the funny thing. Do men know enough about fashion and the language of cloths and the very art of textile storytelling to get it right?

Sure many men have been and are great designers BUT the vast majority of men seem to be lost!

Take Razan for example, she is making shirts for her husband! She brought the idea to life.

And the only people who responded to the discussion I had with Razan were women defending men and their fashion choices!

I think men are fashion impaired and I say this as a man.

Today I was at a conference and 5 was the only guy with a bit of style and colour in his cloths and unless the others at the conference were lifeless the only person who was wearing his personality!

Cloths tell as much a story about us as what we say and do, yet this seems to be a forgotten aspect of the communication package.

Lara Dunston on Twitter this morning pushed the idea out there that maybe destinations need to consider a re-design.

I think this is a golden opportunity for organizations to think and re-design how they communicate, why they communicate and what they communicate.

The problem is organizations BIG and SMALL seem to have no idea where to start, and why should they?

The reality is that business of all size and shape more than ever need the help of an academic like me with a foot in both the business and education pond.

What does business need? re-conceptualization and re-application of the talent pool.

How, COM 101!

Watch this space I will start a podcast of this very project in 2 days!

But there are others out there with the same message if we listen!

The problem is we are too absorbed and have not taken the time to really think or listen to others who have!
