I think one of the biggest problems today, whether it be at school, in business, at home even, is that we are not inspired.

We are so caught up in the moment that we don’t tend to see the bigger picture!

Or we are so caught up in the moment trying to direct and manipulate the next move that we actually fail to see the micro picture.

And in the end we spend a great deal of time looking around and wondering why the other guy is doing so well.

If you are anything like me you love a good story.

But what I love even more is to hear the highs and lows of how a person has progressed through their career.

I like to think of the business tale, some call them case studies, as essential primers to education.

And this conversation does exactly that.

Nader Adamali is the managing director of Swiss Arabian Perfumes Group and Rohan Shetty is the founder and chairman of Kellett & Singleton and they shared their story with me.

If more people got to hear the reality of doing business, the human side, I am sure we would see a whole ne generation of entrepreneur chomping at the bit!

I never cease to be amazed by what Paul comes up with.

What is clear to me, more than ever, is that the UAE and other countries in the middle east need to think about setting minimum regulations for content of domestic music and more on the radio.

There is wonderful regional content that needs, is crying, for an outlet.

Here is the podcast of the Triplew.me show tell me what you think.

One of the parts of the show I really enjoy is talking a look at some of the new technology out there and doing some hands on testing.

We looked at 2 items last night on the program.

Nokia Lumia 800

Nokia’s first Windows phone

I’ve had it since last Friday

Great design (same as N9)

One piece solid polycarbonate, solid color throughout

Great camera, dedicated physical camera button

1.4 GHz processor (single core), 512 MB RAM

16 GB storage (no expansion), you get 25GB SkyDrive cloud storage

8 megapixel camera, f2.2 lens, Carl Zeiss lens, 720p HD video

Windows Phone 7.5

Fast, like the tile interface

IE 9 is fast, but doesn’t render all sites correctly (Mobile Safari for iOS is better)

Apps is an issue (50,000 but not all that I need)

I can imagine how nice the 900 would be, with bigger screen, front-facing camera and LTE

About $80

Long and thick cable

Remote control too close to the headset

Soft earcups

Very flexible mic boom

Great sound for voice chat

Decent for music

I had the opportunity to speak to the music sensation Rash Radio on my ever popular radio show on Dubai Eye.

Honest, sincere and real.

I loved his answer to the question about writers block.

Rash said that he felt like every song was his last and then the next one just seemed to arrive in his mind.

I love the sound of his music and he said that it is set to morph into a bit more deeper textures.

This is an interview that I would recommend to anyone who is looking at what they love to do and thinking of packing it in.

Sometimes all you need for a bit of inspiration is someone to take notice.

Listen to Rash Radio music at Triplew.me.

We all have a book inside of our heads, maybe you have more?

The problem we are constantly faced with, as we think about the ideas and information we want to communicate, is that the ideas and the delivery vehicle have come to be separate.

What we communicate and how we communicate have become so technologically fused that we seem to have unwittingly given up a whole element of the communication process.

It isn’t just what you say but how you say it and the environment that the what and how create.

Sure we have blogs and websites and twitter and facebook BUT the web2.0 tools have removed a vital element from the communication process, the personal.

For the most part what we are exposed to today is a communication template mentality or the “that will do” mentality.

And the result is we only really communicate 1/2 of the message with the rest of the message being lost to some standardized form.

On Nightline Narain Jashanmal and I took a look at 3 magazines that have very purposefully tried to reconnect the message and the medium in a very personal manner.

And the result is engagement without regret.

We looked at Dumbo Feather, Print and Brown Book.

When you are consuming print media for the love of the presentation it changes everything!

What if as I was writing this I thought about the font and the paper and the light and the smell that I wanted you to associate with the ideas?

What we need to really be thinking about as communication experts is multi-sensuality, yes those 2 words are chosen on purpose, and the relationship of our senses to the presentation of our ideas.

Here is the conversation I had with Narain about the ideas of these 3 publications.

It was also interesting that each of my 3 guests had some aspect of family interest in entrepreneurship.

Inspiring is all I have to say.

There are a lot of stereotypes out there and we, you and I, do a wonderful job of sustaining them.

If I was to put the words fitness and models together what would you think?

What if I was to add the words bikini and stage to the mix?

Exactly!

When I knew I was going to be speaking to Nadine du Toit, Derryn, Belinda and Ilana about being fitness models I had a whole set of ideas flash through my head.

Of course seeing the stage photos of these women competing also helped to create a stereotype in my head of these ladies.

How wrong I was.

What did I think? All the wrong things but exactly what society would have me think about a women walking on a stage in a tiny bikini wearing high heels.

Instead what I met were 4 competitive, confident, funny, driven, intelligent, professional women who are very serious about health and fitness and who are also very proud of what they have achieved.

These women have embraced a healthy life style choice and transformed themselves, physically and mentally, into dynamic and very distinctly fit individuals.

And these women have taken back their femininity.

Sure that sounds odd but they really have!

These 4 women are very proud of their bodies and are not shy to show you what they have achieved.

Of course on the radio they were fully dressed and in some of the most conservative attire I have seen.

But they did bring the bikini’s and high heals to show me.

These women, like the others I have spoken to recently, were very inspirational and not at all what I expected.

It is really easy to look around at others and want to have a bit of what they have.

But as of late I have been looking at myself and I realize that I have the life!

I am a successful University professor here in Dubai in the Middle East, my students seem to think what I teach is of value and that is success to me.

My family are healthy and getting the best education money can buy in the UAE.

And I have developed a very interesting radio show on DubaiEye.

Life is good, really good.

It is the radio show that has really grabbed hold of my attention over the last year.

The power of radio to stop us in our tracks is amazing and I think it is largely underestimated for one reason, we are distracted by new media.

But we still get into the car and turn on the radio!

I grew up listening to CBC so it is no wonder that it is CBC I turn to for my radio education.

And who do I like to model myself after?

Jian Ghomeshi of Q fame.

Sure I don’t have the resources of the CBC at my disposal but I try, for 2 hours 4 nights a week, to create the show that Jian Ghomeshi would want to listen to.

No I have never been to the CBC studios in Toronto and no I have never met Jian Ghomeshi and that is the allure of radio, you feel like you know a person because they are talking into your ears and he is my virtual broadcasting coach.

And no I have no plans to stalk him.

So how does my radio education work?

I listen to the Q podcasts on CBC and when I get the chance I tune into the videos on YouTube.

And then I take the tips on presentation and form and try to work it into my own broadcasts.

Here is a sample of Jian at work with a wonderful interview.

And this is the singing that was talked about in the interview.

When I watch what they do in the Q studio I am in awe, really.

I am no Jian Ghomeshi but I like to think a little bit of what he does has rubbed off on what I do here in Dubai on Nightline.

The take home is simple.

If you want to do great radio you have to listen to great radio and do what ever you can to rise to the challenge.

You know how it goes, we hear a person does a particular job and we put them into a box.

Not a literal box, but we do stereotype people according to what we think they do in their particular profession.

Take the accountant.

Want to be stuck in an elevator with an accountant?

Probably not.

But accountants are people just like the rest of us, yet they get such a bad rap.

Well meet Daniella Williams.

Daniella is billed at the thinking accountant and she works with SME’s to help them get their heads around the money side of the business.

What I found interesting was that Daniella came to accounting via piano, drama, violin and a stint working in her Dad’s garage.

If there has ever been a reason to get a liberal arts education Daniella is the poster child.

Have a listen to our conversation, Daniella is not your typical accountant.

The message from this conversation is simple, do what you love and do it better than anyone else.

Yes ANYTHING you love to do will take all your time.

But better to put all your time into a passion than something you really don’t enjoy!
