Too much time, in my house, is being consumed by the Xbox, YouTube and any other number of distractions that are electronic enabled.

AHHHHHHHHHHH LET IT STOP!

We, my wife and I, are pretty much at the end of the rope.

WE WANT OUR FAMILY BACK!

Drastic situations need drastic measures.

I may be turning back the clock 10 years and re-entering an internet free environment in my house.

Of course there are things we need it for and that will need to be addressed.

Here is a fun yet serious look at social media addiction!

Each interview has offered me something personally.

But my conversation with Tony Deifell was nothing short of extraordinary.

Tony offered up, in 45 minutes, the tools to look at what we are doing and move forward!

Now this is not to suggest that Tony put forward a DIY career guide, not at all.

What Tony did was offer us a means of refocusing our perspective.

And I believe it is our fluid perspective that gets us into trouble.

The problem is our perspective doesn’t periodically force us to reassess what we are doing or why and that leads us astray more often than not.

After speaking to Tony I was excited. some of the little pieces of projects I had been working on made sense.

I had a new idea.

And what was really incredible was that earlier in the day I was listening to a CBC podcast of Ideas with an interview of Alexandra Morton talking about Salmon and Orcas and she was saying the same thing as Tony!

Projects take us in all sorts of directions.

Seeing Beyond Sight is one of those projects that makes you sit back and think about what you are doing and then how and why.

Passion is infectious and so much a part of much of what we do, get the passion/action mix right and it just works.

Why do you do what you do is another one of those projects that has left me, again, looking at what I am working on and reminded me that simplicity is often the key to success.

DEcomplexify when and where you can, OFTEN.

And then Tony linked what he has been doing with blind photography and understanding why we do things to the world of journalism with the big thaw.

It is in the intersecting points of this interview, with what I am doing, that the gift moment rest.

We spend a lot of time at tasks that are certain to be mundane.

Our job is to take the routine and push it forward and look at how we can reapply the communication we are part of forward in a different  maybe even new context!

Sometimes it is not what but how that becomes the real gift.

The reality is simple.

We all have an opportunity to do something, anything, no matter how big or small to make our environment a better place.

The question is are we willing and ready t stand up to out responsibility?

It is much easier to say I am too busy or I can’t do anything or my ideas are silly or make some other excuse.

But as Tamara shared with us the smallest action can make a profound change for many people not only on a personal level but a community and maybe even national level.

Change starts with us!

What is that saying, be the change you want to see!

Don’t you just love how we all sit around and yammer about what we should do or what we could do?

And what do we do? 8 out of 10 times we do NOTHING!

But what if you simple idea becomes infectious?

What if your simple idea could change the world, build communities, unite like minded people, help the environment, cost NOTHING and put a huge smile on a person’s face?

No I am not talking about Disney, I am talking about www.freecycle.org!

May 1st 2003 Deron Beal sent out an email to give away a bed, free, just come and get it!

Fast forward to 2009, 6,846,000 people are members of the freecycle movement.

And it all started with the idea of giving something away instead of trashing it or selling it.

I suspect our economic system has corrupted us all to some degree, we seldom give things away just because we can,  we are always looking for the catch or the payback.

Freecycle.org is a pay it forward scheme that could actually hold a key to the reformation of our global commercial systems.

Care more, think more, have more!
