This ad campaign works because it is not too serious but on the other hand very serious.

According to Larry Dobrow Columbia has got its act together.

So why does the campaign work as well as it does? To begin with, “Great Moments In Trying Stuff” isn’t overly ambitious, riffing as it does off previous Columbia campaigns. As a result, it feels new but not conspicuously so. “Experiments” like draining a five-bean salad in a Columbia shoe are tonally akin to all that came before, especially the ads in which Ma Boyle tests the company’s coats incomically super-extreme weather conditions.

Makes you wonder how you can take your own interests into the info/comedy genre.

I love a great ad or the making of one.

I love the way the band members of U2 are able to entertain and spread messages on multiple levels and via multiple streams of media.

This is a great example of old and new media converging to send a subtle message that is tied to something that is a lot bigger.

Check out the ad.

But there is more here.

Bono and Hewson donated their fees to appear in the campaign to TechnoServe, a nongovernmental organization that fosters enterprise in the developing world; Conservation Cotton Initiative, which supports sustainable farming in Africa, and Chernobyl Children’s Project International. Proceeds from sales of the co-designed bag, a keepall style in an embossed, monogram leather, will go to TechnoServe and the Cotton Initiative. The retail price has yet to be finalized.

If you can do!

There are some very creative advertising and marketing ideas out there.

But what happens when you combine advertising and marketing with friendship and cooperation?

How often have you been told that you can do amazing things if you put your mind to it?

The problem is we seldom have something to put our minds to work on that we will see an immediate tangible benefit.

Well, this little ad by Coke really does show what a little motivation can do for ingenuity.

The lesson here?

Reduce issues you are confronted with to a size you can deal with and be sure there is a clear ending with a reward of some sort.

So simple.

Today as I wandered through the publications office of Zayed University I was treated to a little video folly!

I had never heard of Spy Films, the company, but now I cannot stop talking about them.

The film/ad I was treated to is just very cool.

Spy Films and directing duo Alex & Steffen, roll out the latest spot for communications company, Batelco.

“At over three minutes long, the film plunges the viewer into an Inception-style environment and delves into the minds of its protagonists as they re-imagine the world around them. And since the film was launched on its dedicated Facebook fanpage earlier this week it’s been gaining international momentum.” – Shots Magazine

I love the fact that this is all happening in the main character’s mind.

It is this kind of work that makes me say, “wow”, and hope my children go into the creative industry to make their dreams come to life.

For the last few years I have been very interested in how we brand ideas and concepts for the different segments of the population.

The mud on the wall method of delivering content, if some sticks it is ok approach, is simply not good enough.

Again and again I return to Michele Miller and Wonder Branding.

www.wonderbranding.com is a great site!

What makes this site really useful is the amount of material available to think about how you are marketing to women, over 1/2 of the global population is women remember!

But what is really interesting is Michele herself.

So, when it comes to education, public policy, marketing… how much time to do we soend thinking about presenting the ideas to women in a way that appeals to them?

Exactly!

Time to begin thinking differently.

Food for thought from Michele Miller.

The short and simple answer is we do not communicate well about the micro issues that can/will and do impact upon our very lives.

Maybe we think we cannot change the world?

Maybe we think people do not care?

Maybe we don’t care?

The reality is we need to be slapped with a wet towel to wake up and realize that there are umpteen things we can do to influence our corner of the world today and now if we just communicated with others, and communicated effectively in the process.

I see a lot of ads that have no impact on me, this one made me stop and think!

[videofile]http://jamesed.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/a-cool-ad-desktop.m4v[/videofile]
