We are so caught up in the moment that we don’t tend to see the bigger picture!

Or we are so caught up in the moment trying to direct and manipulate the next move that we actually fail to see the micro picture.

And in the end we spend a great deal of time looking around and wondering why the other guy is doing so well.

If you are anything like me you love a good story.

But what I love even more is to hear the highs and lows of how a person has progressed through their career.

I like to think of the business tale, some call them case studies, as essential primers to education.

And this conversation does exactly that.

Nader Adamali is the managing director of Swiss Arabian Perfumes Group and Rohan Shetty is the founder and chairman of Kellett & Singleton and they shared their story with me.

If more people got to hear the reality of doing business, the human side, I am sure we would see a whole ne generation of entrepreneur chomping at the bit!

When we get a long weekend the euphoria is clearly felt.

So why not make every day a 3 day weekend?

I asked this question and THE ONLY people who were against it were business leaders!

The fear is productivity!

Is it possible that our business community is caught in 1900 think? YES!

And I suspect the mind-think lag is the fault of educators who are also caught in the lag.

We talk about outside the box thinking and action but how often do we actually get there? Almost never.

Manager NEED to care about there workforce!

Caring, simple respect for time in, could be a huge push for productivity and workplace satisfaction.

If workers are happy customers are happy!

Not that I was hearing anything new but it was great to hear these ideas from another voice.

Tips to success from Bill the cable guy.

1. The most important lesson is the need to creatively adapt!

2. Passion is what you need to have.

3. Go global go local you have to be there.

4. Take risks and break the rules.

5. Innovation comes from risk.

6. Failure teaches .

7. Don’t be afraid.

8. First on the battle field last to leave or quick to take blame and slow to take credit.

9. Bureaucracy is a killer of innovation.

10. Hard work trumps talent.

11. Stand up for tolerance and diversity.

12. Never accept no for an answer.

13. MASTER DIGITAL with a heart.

These are very valuable tips that all too often we forget.

I co-curated the 1st TEDxDubai with Giorgio Ungania in 2009, an amazingly HUGE event right out of the blocks.

Then I found my home in events that are youth and education centered.

Education centered in that they are organized by schools.

TEDxAbuDhabiU was my favorite until TEDxZU 6!

The 6th TEDxZU event was exactly what is said on the box, short, to the point, student centered and idea heavy.

The hosting was over the top!

There is no right or wrong TEDx event but from where I am sitting a 60 minute event in the middle of the day, where I work, AMAZING.

I love the fact that I have an opportunity to do a radio show, Nightline, on DubaiEye and meet people that I might actually meet at TED.

There is a lot of noise out there on the Internet and once again a way to break through the clutter is with a service like Livestream.

This was a conversation I had with Dr. Naif Al Mutawa who joined me for a conversation about the latest developments with the 99 super hero series!

The power of the spoken word to touch, motivate and inspire never ceases to amaze me.

The 1st question people ask is why am I leaving Zayed University after 12 years?

Zayed University has been a great place to work and a fantastic personal innovation incubator for me.

But how often are you given the opportunity to not only dream about how you might teach journalism, public relations and advertising for the world we live in but actually do it? In this world almost never.

Well, I have been asked to join the faculty of CUD and not only dream but do.

Very soon I am going to find myself with my feet in 3 places.

I will be a teacher.

I will be an administrator.

I will be an innovation lab leader.

In all 3 scenarios there is going to be a need for extreme motivation.

New programs have very particular emotional ups and downs for everyone making motivation job #1 for me.

As would happen Inc.com has an excellent set of tips on just that, motivation!

Every one of the 14 Inc suggestions are great.

Here are my top 5 picks.

 Avoid negative people. They drain your energy and waste your time, so hanging with them is like shooting yourself in the foot.

Stretch past your limits on a daily basis. Walking the old, familiar paths is how you grow old. Stretching makes you grow and evolve.

Avoid weak goals.  Goals are the soul of achievement, so never begin them with “I’ll try …”  Always start with “I will” or “I must.”

Treat inaction as the only real failure.  If you don’t take action, you fail by default and can’t even learn from the experience.

Take responsibility for your own results. If you blame (or credit) luck, fate or divine intervention, you’ll always have an excuse.
