Employees May Be the Best Brand Advocates

Posted on | April 10, 2014 | No Comments

We know this but are we actually believing it?

I am fortunate to work in education and media where I see leadership actively working at providing employees with the tools to be brand advocates.

The challenges are huge especially when you have full-time, part-time and freelance employees all coming together.

And there is the issue of working environments, salary, benefits, internal communication and the list goes on.

So what doe we need to know?

The root of the problem lies in a lack of both job security and effective communications from the top down.

  • 84% of respondents have experienced a big workplace change recently, be it an executive shakeup (45%) or mass layoffs (22%)
  • Yet, while more than half have defended their own employer to a third party…
  • Only 17% give high ratings to communications received from leadership. Even managers only get a 31% approval rating

So most employees are ready to stand up for the companies that employ them, but they receive very little in the way of guidance and encouragement. That doesn’t mean pre-written tweets; it means feedback involving the value of the work they do.

Organisations need a plan and they need SOMEONE to help guide staff on how to best make use of a variety of tools to tell an organisations story.

The best brand advocates are those in the brand, the employees, because they advocate 24/7!

So why leave anything to chance?

Encourage and find the balance.
