How to Succeed

Posted on | May 24, 2011 | No Comments

Mark Van Name is a sci-fi author, entrepreneur and tech guy.

What is interesting about Mark is how he got to where he is today, the path is not straight.

Mark went from a computer science degree to writing code to reviewing hardware and software as a profession.

Along the way, or more like during the process, Mark realized he had a passion for storytelling and write.

It was interesting to hear Mark talk about the writing process.

1st Mark said there is no glamour in writing, it is a job.

The challenge is getting down to the writing process, whether you have something to write or not.

So what Mark does is give himself a 30 minute window each day, during those 30 minutes Mark sits in front of the computer and writes.

Maybe Mark gets 1000 words out of his 30 minutes or maybe he gets 10 but the goal is 30 minutes a day.

I think this process can be applied to everything we do and should be.

The most difficult task we face is starting something and not feeling like we have failed.

So if the success meter is engaging for 30 minutes and we do that then we are succeeding!

Of course more often than not we get beyond the 30 minutes which is gravy.

My entire conversation with Mark Van Name was inspirational and worth sharing.
