James Piecowye thinking out loud

Ideas, inspiration and a bit of random.

On Creativity

Creativity is an odd thing.

I seem to have been on this odd quest of a sort since 2009 running into bits and pieces of how people manage, wrestle and tame their own creative energy long enough to grab the idea and put it into a form that others can understand.

It is absolutely interesting to listen to other people talk about creative process because more often than not it allows you to see or feel a little bit of the process in your own daily life.

There is no question in my mind we all have creative energy and we all are receptive to creative inspiration.

The challenge we face is how to take the inspiration and make it into something.

Well, Michael Enright on CBC, The Sunday Edition, had a wonderful interview with Dennis Lee and I happened on it because it was a conversation about poetry and a great poet is always fun to listen to.

What I didn’t know I was going to listen to was a person talk about how the inspiration process happens for him in such complete detail.

I was amazed by this conversation and it made me pause and once again realise that this is a process I have heard variations of from others.

Listen, enjoy and think about your own creative process!
