We (yachts) cover vast distances in the service of our owners, yet we show up in a port with empty holds and storage areas...remember, the large yachts are usually classed and governed as &quot;Cargo Vessels&quot;.
Our only contribution to the local economy is pilotage (maybe), dockage (maybe) and the odd provisioning order (maybe) but mostly tourism in the form of guides, rental cars and restaurants.
I say, as you have already done.....take them the educational supplies but lets also deliver goods that the parents could use to improve the household (use your imagination on this one).
But please ask the agent (marina/port manager/master) in advance if this would be OK as regards customs policy.  The remotest places have charity organizations and they can be used to the best effect through the agent.
