Tell A Story You Believe!

I spend a good portion of my week walking students through the art of storytelling.
Today my storytelling lessons are increasingly in the guise of public speaking, something that +/- 90% of those who do it do poorly.
What makes a good story/presentation?
10% content and 90% show! I
It is the show that near all get wrong, the words alone are just letters.
But what is even more important about a great story, an excellent story, is that you, the person delivering it believes it!
If you do not buy into what you are saying how can you expect others to buy in?
Have you seen the Oprah Speech to the 2008 Stanford Graduation?
There are flaws in the delivery BUT Oprah believes what she is saying and that makes it work.

If you listen to Oprah’s speech you get a valuable lesson in the organization of your own ideas and the SIMPLE truth that you NEED to believe in what you say for it to work.
The second take-home from this presentation are the 3 lessons!

Couldn’t agree with you more.
Storytelling is the single most powerful way to get your message across.
Your audience might also be interested in another commencement speech. This one by J.K. Rowling (this is the link to part two of three):

Links to the first and second parts are also on the page.
In my view, both Winfrey and Rowling would have been more powerful without notes… Reading almost always weakens delivery.
