The Making of TEDx Dubai!

39 days until TEDx Dubai and against all the odds Giorgio Ungania and myself seem to be taking a simple idea and making it into a cause for the nation!

There seems to be no shortage of journalists looking for something to criticize about Dubai and the UAE. Fair enough, hang yourself out there as THE global success model and people will take shots at you.

Giorgio and myself, TEDsters to the core, believed in May that there was a very deep pool of ideas sitting idle in the UAE and greater GCC and something needed to cause a ripple to allow the ideas and their creators an opportunity to share them.

TEDxDubai was born.

With 38 days to go the TV producer and professor have no doubt that this event will change lives in the UAE! We are also very aware that we are not conference organizers!

So what have we learned so far that has currency in everything we are doing?

1. keep focused

2. admit you don’t know and ask the people who do for help

3. be honest with yourself and others

4. keep the story simple

5. treat everyone with respect

6. ignore those who say TEDxDubai on a grand scale is impossible

And the most important thing I have taken from this process that is far from over, trust without question, those you work with.
