Annonymity! And the NET.

I wonder if the idea of social networking and its power is undermined by people using it as an identity shield?
My feeling is that I write electronically here and at Dubai Nightline to provide a forum for ideas, issues and information.
I stand by my ideas and opinions and if someone feels there is a challenge to be made they can contact me via my clearly posted email to have a dialogue.
Over the last week I have been receiving interesting posts, to be moderated, that seem to challenge the freedom of blogging and others to use comments as a forum for expression. But the curious thing is those commenting either chose to be anonymous of have created a handle that shields their identity.
It is great that people feel they can use blogs as a tool to disseminate ideas and engage in challenging discussions BUT if you can not verify who you are speaking with what is the value of even entertaining that discussion?
It worries me that we are increasingly participating in disembodied discussion and debate using the Internet that we can ultimately distance ourselves from and deny ownership.
Comment on blogs, debate, discuss but for the love of the forum let people know who you are and!
