Make Education Worth the Time

I have failed!

Posted on | March 24, 2009 | No Comments

I am a very positive person but today I sat through 6 presentations by students.

At least 4 of those students had been through a process where I worked at improving their public speaking.

They did speak well.

But the students could have been exceptional!

I know you can only lead a horse to water…

But my students are my calling card and if they do not take the lessons on board and not do them for 18 weeks but live them for ever how can I claim to be a success?

Some of what I saw today was week 7 of a public speaking course… maybe I can take back the grades?

I really feel I have failed.

10 points to live by whenever you present!

1. never read a PowerPoint

2. never over fill a PowerPoint

3. practice until the colour is as it needs to be

4. be friendly

5. take criticism gracefully

6. don’t ask for questions if you might get asked something you do not want to answer

7. REMEBER THE SHOW

8. work through distraction and if people are talking through your presentation there is a reason!

9. grand gestures

10. make it worth my while
