Make Education Worth the Time

Grades, ability and motivation.

Posted on | March 1, 2009 | No Comments

Do grades matter?

I have to give them and I don’t like the process nor the outcome.

I think grades create and artificial sense of achievement and ability.

Students work for the grade not the compendium of skills that might actually be worth something.

I think grades lead to students playing it too safe and thus not doing the best work but that which is the easy path.

What we need is to see more entrepreneurial/innovation content added to the education process and the grading models changed to reflect the application of the theory and classroom models to a real sustainable situation.

Now that makes me smile!
