Make Education Worth the Time

TED2009 day 2 in bites.

Posted on | February 6, 2009 | No Comments

TED is a collaboration of people and ideas taken to the positive extreme! A positive extreme that we are almost never exposed to for such a prolonged period of time!

Here are some thoughts from the day.

OLIVER SACKS

When we see with our brain’s we are employing our imaginations.

What I found interesting was the idea that insights mimic our perception according to Dr. Sacks.

It is interesting to think about the parts of the brain not being used, damaged, going into a hyperactive state periodically causing hallucinations… I wonder how this plays out at the lower levels?

OLAFUR ELIASSON

We live in a series of relational experiences that manifest as dialogues.

Who decides what reality is?

The reality is we live in a world of co-productions!

How do we create a public space and what is a public space today?

It is important to remember that there is a shared responsibility when it comes to society and that is as much about who is creating what as who is consuming what!

What about the culture of availability being promoted via the mobile phone society?

We are increasingly living in a world of shared narratives.

TED might be defined as the catalyst to the Aha moment! What is interesting is how we deal with these moments.

ELIZABETH GILBERT

How do you work against the anxiety of doing what you love?

A very interesting discussion took place about the creative process and how there might be an other, that thing that helps feed the process!

Creativity comes down to showing up and doing your job and the other forces joining the party!

KAUFFMAN FOUNDATION LUNCH

The problem we are faced with today is that we are looking at the problems around us using the models and process of yesterday! The problem is the models might work for yesterday but they do not work for tomorrow because tomorrow is a whole different thing.

It is the edge movements that change society.

We can make change the problem is we really like things as they are and change = different.

Imagine the power and beauty that can and will be unleashed via mass collaboration!
