Make Education Worth the Time

Learning Idea #23.

Posted on | November 27, 2008 | 1 Comment

I am just tossing this out there.

There is a group of Moms, and a token Dad or 2, that have put their lives on hold as their children start  formal education.

How are the lives of these parents on hold?

There is a pick up and drop off and in the middle a lot of time that is taken up by routine which is a far cry from what they had been doing. At one point even working.

With the global recession and down turn, maybe down sizing the need for what I am suggesting is needed more than ever!

So we have a segment of our population that has some idle time, for the sake of arguement 30 minutes of waiting at the end of the day.

This segment of the population may be a homemaker who is thinking they want to return to the workplace, seek more mental stimulation or be a person who has lost their job and needs some new skills.

We have people with time.

We have a place where these people with time hang out, wait.

All we need now is to add a micro education structure to the mix!

What if parents who were waiting engaged in a learning program in the 30 minutes they wait? Make it every other day!

Micro education classes!

At schools!

For waiting parents!

What kind of courses?

Public Speaking, Conflict Resolution, Web 2.0, Team Building, Innovation… almost anything that a person is willing to teach and put into a micro learning format!

Who would teach these courses?

You could have an educator at the school maybe even the principal or a parent like me who has a skill to share.

Imagine that it costs nothing but time and is facilitated by the school!

Now imagine that a college or university adopted this into their Cont. ed. program!

Maybe this is simply a variation of corporate social responsibility?

It sure would be cool…
