Who are you?

I was watching an episode of Gray’s Anatomy last night, it was a year old almost to the day (yes I am a year behind on my popular TV program watching), and Gray’s stepsister had a great idea that could actually have a wider application!
So what did Gray’s sister do? She gave Gray a list of 5 things she didn’t know about her, #5 amazing etch-a-sketch artist!
So I was thinking about the people I run into on a daily basis. I run into a lot BUT I probably only have meaningful conversations/interactions with 7.
I wrote the 7 peoples names down on a piece of paper today and made a quick list of the top 5 interesting things I know about each, very subjective yes but I will get to the point.
I knew some work things, I knew some stuff based on a meeting and a coffee.
But I realized that what I knew about these people amounted to little that was beyond the observable, yet it is the non observed characteristics that fold, twist and crumple people up to the world they walk out into each day!
So why don’t I know more about the people I bump into and make some really cool things happen with? For instance I know next to nothing about the producer of my radio show yet we talk all the time! I still know almost nothing about my amazing doctoral dissertation advisor Dr. Marc Raboy and it is because of him I have a Ph.D today that is worth more than I could have ever imagined!
Maybe we need to have a top 5 that we present to people?
Maybe when we start a meeting we need to ask for the top 5?
I am going to pull a Gapingvoid and put them on the back of my business cards!
My top 5. The must know according to me.
1. I cry when I watch sad movies.
2. Like my cereal with almost no milk.
3. Hate to travel without my family.
4. I really am great at getting people to relax and open up in a conversation.
5. I can not stand it when people eat with their mouth open!
How might people who know what I think are 5 important things about me use this information to create a better relationship?
